“The Body in Tune: Using the Tuning Board
to develop Vertical Embodiment Resources and Orienting Capacity."

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

Description: Health is characterized by centeredness, balance, connectedness, and movement.

In this workshop, the Tuning Board will be used to explore the body in balance relative to stability and motion. Participants will improve kinesthetic awareness and gain an increased sense of their own embodiment. They will learn strategies for developing somatic resources such as grounding, centering, openness, connection, and orienting in themselves and their clients. They will also identify and work with restrictions and fixated patterns that hinder the full expression of health, and that may be caused by trauma, injuries, or engrained habits of use.

Teacher: Darrell Sanchez, Ph.D.

Registration and Information: English      Deutsch

May 29-30, 2019 (Wednesday-Thursday)

“Working with the Tuning Board - Level II: The Pelvis"

Location: Zurich, Switzerland

Description: The pelvis can be referred to as the seat of embodiment in that it houses the body’s center of gravity. It is the durable bowl of bones that protects the delicate and essential organs of the lower abdomen. It is designed to allow subtle movement between the bones that make up the pelvis and permits a caressing and stable motion to the organs of elimination and reproduction. In the chakra system the pelvis relates to the first chakra of survival at the pelvic floor and the second chakra of sexuality below the navel.

The sense of grounding and power transmitted through the feet and legs travels to the mid-station of the body at the pelvis. It is here that nerve signals are picked up from that movement and stimulate the proprioception at the hip, sacrum and lumbar spine joints and the lower viscera to continue to the spinal cord and brain. These neural sensations and the associated information from our experiences in the pelvis are important in telling us we are connected to the earth and confident about where we are and how to respond to our world.

The pelvis can be the site of much trauma and stress from such experiences as, child birth, automobile accidents, sexual abuse, falls, childhood psychological conditioning, etc. As such, we can lose the normal movement and healthy sensations related to balanced pelvic function.

The Tuning Board sends waves of motion up through the legs and into the pelvis. That motion shows how the pelvis moves or doesn’t move with the waves being delivered by the movement from below. This can clearly show how free or restricted the pelvis is. From here we can work with the information that emerges in the individual’s awareness.

“The Tuning Board and Somatic Experiencing Level I:
Experiencing Deeper Embodiment"

Location: Graz, Austria

Description: This workshop is specifically designed for practitioners of Somatic Experiencing.

Our survival depends on our ability to accurately assess threat or safety in our internal and external environments. In the body, sensing provided by our proprioception system helps us form accurate and appropriate responses that ensure our health and well-being. We need the functions of proprioception and related embodied characteristics, including balance, grounding, orienting and vertical integration, etc., to feel safe in the world.

The lingering effects of trauma, stress and conditioning can compromise innate survival systems, impacting our confidence, sense of self and our desire to seek and understand what it is to be human.

The Tuning Board provides a gentle unstable surface that stimulates the proprioceptive and vestibular systems. The movement it produces enters very quickly into the deepest parts of the nervous system. That movement stimulates information in the dissociated and immobilized areas of the body. Accessing that information is essential to transforming our embodiment toward a greater experience of coherence, resiliency and better self-regulation.

When used according to principles and concepts of human embodiment, the Tuning Board is a powerful somatic tool that helps one to enter very quickly and deeply into the Embodied Resources.

In this workshop, we will learn how to access the first dimension of our being: our reflexes, which form the basis of defensive and joining movements. We will become aware of and practiced at the skill of micro-sensing which enlivens the felt experience and empowers our embodiment. We will see how the Tuning Board aids us in restoring wholeness and balance to our lived experience.

Teacher: Darrell Sanchez, Ph.D.

In this workshop, we will revisit the reflexes, the first dimension of our embodiment that was introduced in Level I. We will take that further and add the next dimension of conscious embodiment: play. We will deepen our practice of the skill of micro-sensing and the skill of kinesthetic resonance.

    “Moving the Vagus"

    Location: Zurich, Switzerland

Description: The vagus nerve is essential to our well-being and survival. Healthy vagal tone is characterized by resiliency. When it is functioning in a balanced state we can go from love, to social connection, to arousal and action to rest, to meditation, to normal breath, digestion and heart rate. We are continually cycling through our triune autonomic vagal response system (social, sympathetic, parasympathetic) to what we experience in our internal and external reality. Loss of this ANS elasticity indicates traumatic stress, PTSD and fixation.

In this workshop we will incorporate various exercises using the Tuning Board to identify and track the state of each other’s vagal tone, flexibility and flow. The goal is to gain skill in identifying which vagal function is operating and to encourage and restore healthy vagal tone.

It associates with all our internal functions, the environment and to our relationship with others. The Tuning Board sends a beautiful and gentle motion up through the entire body that stimulates every joint and major organ of the body. This loving motion supports the motility of the viscera, thus enlivening the vagus nerve and releasing information stored in the body. We will work with the movement of the vagus nerve toward resiliency and balance.

“The Tuning Board, Archetypes, and the Imagination"

    Location: Zurich, Switzerland

Description: Reflexes, automatic functions that aid and ensure our survival, and higher functions, such as imagination that involves conscious awareness and unconscious emergent images and expressions, come to life more fully when working with the Tuning Board. Archetypes are universal patterns that exist in our inherited unconscious and are recognized in common throughout humanity and serve as an example of emergent expressions. Upon observing them each of us responds inherently to a shared knowing of the appearance of the archetypes and what they mean.

Imagination is a process of generating images revealing what is inside us and in the unconscious. These images can also include “kinesthetic imaging” or postural shapes and sensations which have imprinted and lingered in the body from life experiences. Many of these kinesthetic images are based in immobilized traumatic experiences. Imagination is a real energetic process at the heart of creative transformation and has been referred to as the bridge between the conscious and the unconscious.

The Tuning Board sets in motion the body and the mind stimulating both reflexive and higher functions in a dance between our conscious minds and our personal and collective unconscious. In this seminar we will use memories, dreams and emergent insights to tap into both our present awareness and our vast shared unconscious to understand the meaning of emergent images evoked by the gentle embodied motion of the Tuning Board.
